Lubricate your scissors at the end of each working day and several times a day in the case of prolonged use. A light film of oil will protect the scissors from moisture; it will also keep the scissors smooth in movement. Only use lubricating oil specifically for the scissors. Clipper oil is not recommended, because it may be harmful to the rubber/nylon parts of the pivot or the Teflon ride and especially because it tends to attract dirt: it may actually shorten the life of your scissors. Put a drop of oil in the pivot/screw area and spread it along the inside of each blade.
Adjust the scissors after lubrication or when the blades appear to be too tight or too loose (a daily check is recommended). As a general rule, the correct calibration is achieved when, holding the closed scissors in a horizontal position with the thumb pointing downwards, the scissors remain closed when pulling the thumb out of the ring. At the slightest swinging movement of the hand, the thumb-operated blade must open Conversely, if the blades do not open, it means that the screw is too tight and needs to be loosened just enough to achieve the result described above. Care must be taken not to over-tighten and not to loosen the ball bearing screw too much, as this could damage the sharpness of the scissors when working. An adjustment with the Ball Bearing screw is definitely safer, because with a click, the system automatically helps prevent mistakes.
